Fillings / Crowns

If your child has decay, our aim is to restore their dentition maintaining both function and aesthetics. Our restorations are provided using the highest quality dental materials ensuring your child has the best treatment outcomes and limiting their need for future dental treatment.

In order to encourage a positive dental experience restorative treatment can be delivered using special techniques for giving local anaesthesia. If required nitrous oxide sedation or general anaesthesia are also available.

Individual treatments will vary depending upon circumstances but may include:

Tooth Coloured Fillings

Tooth coloured fillings are commonly used in paediatric dentistry to provide aesthetic restorations for small areas of dental decay. Our practice does not use amalgam (metal filling containing mercury) as a restorative material.

Composite Crowns

Composite crowns are full coverage, tooth-coloured restorations recommended for treatment of extensive decay, tooth fractures or developmental defects. They provide a highly aesthetic restorative option for both primary and permanent front teeth.

Stainless Steel Crowns

Stainless steel crowns have a long history in paediatric dentistry. They are available for both primary and permanent molar teeth and provide a durable full coverage restoration. They support the tooth and provide an excellent seal, as such they are recommended for use in teeth with extensive caries, developmental defects or those requiring pulp therapy.

Zirconia Crowns

Zirconia crowns are a preformed full coverage crown that provides an aesthetic alternative to stainless steel crowns, being both strong and tooth coloured. They recommended for use in primary teeth with extensive caries, in particular those requiring pulp therapy.

Fissure Sealants

Fissure sealing is a non-invasive preventive procedure that does not require local anaesthetic. It is recommended for grooves and fissures in areas with a high risk of dental decay, such as first permanent molars. Flowable white filling material is used to fill fissures, preventing food from sticking and enabling easier cleaning.
